Adriene has always been drawn to those problems where the optimal solutions may not be the obvious ones. In a word: puzzles. In her late 20s, she joined a US Class 1 railroad to lead their newly formed service design function. For the next 25 years, she worked in leadership roles for transportation providers, from railroads to intermodal to truck brokerage to international freight forwarding and contract logistics. The common thread was always a transformational challenge that needed to be solved, whether in a line commercial or operating role or in the strategy/development chair.

Adriene is excited by the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. The global supply chain is full of potential and has an imperative to be more resilient and more efficient. The ability for multiple parties to integrate information and orchestrate operations across organizational boundaries holds the promise of unlocking a tremendous amount of value for the world and to eliminate costly bottlenecks and failures within the system. She is driven to treat the global supply chain as a shared and vital asset and develop trust-based standards that allow for greater integration and visibility across the ecosystem and methods of responding to and optimizing our responses to disruptions at scale.

Allen West is president and chief executive officer of Railinc Corp. Since his appointment in 2006, Railinc has become a leading technology organization serving the freight rail industry with a customer-focused culture, a progressive, results-oriented work force and leading technology infrastructure.

West has 40 years of experience in information technology and business management with leading companies in the transportation and manufacturing sectors. Prior to joining Railinc, he was director of information technology for Sea-Land Service Inc., a subsidiary of CSX Inc. There he led technology teams in development of applications and business solutions for Sea-Land's global operations. He has also held key leadership positions within Tenneco Inc. and Norfolk Southern Corp.

West is past chairman of the North Carolina Technology Association. He also serves on the board of ProAxion Corporation, an IoT startup. West has served on Teradata's Travel and Transportation Advisory Board and is a charter member of the IBM Global Rail Innovation Center advisory board. In 2024, West was given a Lifetime Achievement award by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine. During his career at Railinc, he has overseen the release of numerous products that support industry efforts to improve railroad efficiency, first responder safety, and shipper visibility. He has served on the board of RailPAC, a political action committee serving the freight rail industry. He is an active supporter of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

West holds a bachelor's of business administration degree in management of information systems from James Madison University and an MBA from Old Dominion University. He has attended many advanced management courses including most recently Northwestern's Advanced Management Program. West served in the U.S. Army.

Ashley Wieland is the President of the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC). Wieland previously worked for the NRC in roles that covered operations, conference planning, government affairs and grassroots events.

Most recently, she served as director of state government relations for the American Traffic Safety Services Association, where she built the association's state government relations program from the ground up, NRC officials said in a press release.

Robert Babcock was named President and CEO of Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroads (LA&L) in September 2022. Mr. Babcock was most recently General Manager/Vice President/Senior Vice President of the Indiana Rail Road (INRD), where he was responsible for train operations, car/locomotion repair, systems safety and training, customer service, engineering and intermodal marketing and operations. He was previously General Manager of the Baltimore, Louisville & Appalachian Divisions and Managing Director of Car Management at CSX Transportation, and Superintendent of Operations at BNSF Railway. Mr. Babcock started his rail career as a business development manager at Santa Fe Railway.

Mr. Babcock holds a BS in Transportation Management from Indiana University and is a board member of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association and the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers.

Brandy Christian

Patriot Rail

Rail, ports and global supply chain leader Brandy D. Christian was appointed chief executive officer in July, 2024. 

Christian comes to Patriot Rail from her recent roles as president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), the nation's 10th largest port by general cargo tonnage, and CEO of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB). The fourth-largest rail gateway in the U.S., the NOPB short line serves Port NOLA and interchanges directly with six Class 1 railroads. Christian oversaw Port NOLA's acquisition and integration of the NOPB, which under her direction increased operating income by nearly 300 percent and improved safety, operating efficiency, and service. 

During her seven years as Port NOLA president and CEO, Christian led the largest economic development project and public-private partnership in Louisiana history, the $1.8 billion Louisiana International Terminal set for construction in 2025 and the centerpiece of the capital improvement of more than 2,500 acres of maritime, industrial and rail property. During her tenure as president and CEO, Christian grew Port NOLA revenues by 70 percent. Christian also served from 2015-2017 as Port NOLA's chief operating officer.

Previously Christian was vice president of strategy and business development for the Port of San Diego and a management consultant with KPMG. Christian has served in multiple advisory and board roles, including the U.S. Surface Transportation Board Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council, the Green Marine Board of Directors, the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank Trade and Transportation Advisory Council, the Louisiana Board of International Commerce, and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. 

Christian holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California and a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona.

Chuck Baker joined ASLRRA as President in February 2019 after a 15-year career in the railroad industry. Before joining ASLRRA he was a Partner at Chambers Conlon & Hartwell (CC&H), where, in addition to the ASLRRA, he represented clients such as the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC), the OneRail Coalition, the American Railway Development Association, Norfolk Southern, and Canadian National. For the NRC, Mr. Baker also served as its President. In that capacity, he had responsibility for all of the association's core financial, operational, and legal programs, including the federal legislative and regulatory program in front of both Congress and the Administration. For the OneRail Coalition, a coalition of freight rail, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail, rail labor, and rail supply industry interests, Mr. Baker coordinated the group's activities and messaging.

Prior to joining CC&H, Mr. Baker worked with the Surface Transportation Policy Project in Washington, D.C. Mr. Baker has also worked for Deutsche Bank Securities as an investment banker specializing in Corporate Finance and Mergers & Acquisitions in San Francisco, CA. Mr. Baker is a native of Baltimore, MD, and a graduate of Rice University in Houston, TX.

Dilip also leads QuantumBlack's global delivery hubs in Gurgaon, Sao Paolo, and Wroclaw serving their global clients. He has published his work in the McKinsey Quarterly, Harvard Business Review, and other outlets.

Dilip holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, and an MBA from the Wharton School, where he was a Palmer Scholar.

Eric Harvey

Railway Association of Canada

Eric was appointed President and CEO of the Railway Association of Canada (RAC) in February 2025. He has more than 25 years of experience in transportation law, policy, and regulation. Before joining RAC, he served as Assistant General Counsel, Policy and Legislative Affairs, at Canadian National Railway (CN). In this role, he led CN's work on major legislative and regulatory initiatives, including reviews of the Railway Safety Act and the Canada Transportation Act, while guiding the company's engagement with federal decision-makers. Prior to this role, he managed the rail regulatory group at CN, providing advice on safety and economic regulation.

Earlier in his career, Eric worked in Ottawa for federal transportation regulators and agencies, gaining deep knowledge of public-sector policy development and oversight in rail and other modes.

Eric received his law degree from the University of Ottawa and subsequently, a Masters in law from King's College London.

At RAC, Eric advocates for safe, efficient, and sustainable railways, emphasizing supply-chain reliability, investment, and modern regulation to strengthen Canada's integrated transportation network.

Farrukh Bezar

Mr. Farrukh Bezar joined Littlejohn in 2024 as an Operating Partner focusing on the Transportation and Logistics sector. Mr. Bezar most recently served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at CSX Corporation, with responsibility for leading the company's strategic growth initiatives. Previously, he was Senior Vice President of Marketing, overseeing the company's marketing groups as well as having corporate strategy responsibilities. A transportation and logistics industry strategist and analyst for more than 25 years, Mr. Bezar joined CSX in May 2019 from Lynwood Partners, a transportation and logistics advisory firm he founded in 2017 and led as a Managing Partner.

His previous experience includes senior leadership roles within the transportation and logistics functions at Clarendon, Booz Allen Hamilton, and A.T. Kearney. He also previously held sales and marketing positions at the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and served as a financial analyst with Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mr. Bezar holds an MBA in management, marketing and transportation from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in economics and political science, also from Northwestern.

He currently serves on the boards of Magnate Worldwide, STG and the Northwestern Transportation Advisory Board.

Prior to that, Trombley held several roles at Parsons, including Group Executive Vice President, Federal where she helped provide services and integrated solutions for U.S. federal contractors, as well as served as Senior Vice President and Division Manager, Aviation and Senior Vice President, Mining and Infrastructure. Trombley began her career in transportation at GE Transportation in various leadership roles, including Global Services Commercial Leader. Trombley holds a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and she served for six years in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer.

Harry Zander is the Chief Commercial Officer at Intramotev, a St. Louis-based manufacturer of battery-electric, self-propelled railcars. With over 30 years of experience in the rail industry, he has served as Chief Revenue Officer of Patriot Rail, a leading shortline railroad holding company with over 30 railroads, and as SVP of New Product Development at TrinityRail, a major railcar manufacturer.

Harry also spent more than two decades as an executive in the rail asset leasing industry and has served on numerous boards and executive committees of industry trade associations, including as a current board member of the North American Rail Shippers Association (NARS). He is a past president and current board member of the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS). He has a BA in Economics from the University of Colorado and a Masters In Finance from Insead - Fontainebleau.

As the Association of American Railroads (AAR™) president and CEO, Jefferies advocates for and works with member railroads to ensure the continued viability of America's railroad industry. Prior to assuming the role on January 1, 2019, Jefferies was the senior vice president of AAR's government affairs where he led the development, promotion and implementation of legislative priorities for the AAR™. Before joining the AAR, Jefferies cultivated more than a decade of experience working within government. From 2009 to 2013, Jefferies served as a senior policy advisor to the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. In this role, Jefferies provided policy guidance on a host of transportation issues, including railroad economic regulation, rail safety and passenger rail.

Jefferies also led the successful development, negotiation and reauthorization of major infrastructure legislation and managed the successful conference of Committee legislation relating to the 2012 surface transportation reauthorization law, MAP 21. Jefferies began his career in government serving as a Senior Advisor to the Mayor of Lexington, Kentucky, before transitioning to the federal government. Prior to serving in the United States Senate, he worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Government Accountability Office. In these roles, Jefferies led program reviews on a variety of issues including infrastructure development, international trade, major weapon systems acquisition and federal contracting.

A railroader, Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena has more than 40 years of industry experience with a demonstrated track record of driving best-in-class operating and service results. His vision for the railroad is clear: Safety, Service and Operational Excellence will equal Growth.

Vena knows railroading firsthand, beginning his career as a Canadian National Railway (CN) laborer in maintenance of way, then a brakeman, conductor, locomotive engineer, trainmaster and superintendent. He progressively held roles of increasing responsibility, including senior management positions in Operations, Marketing, and Sales spanning CN?s east, west and southern regions across the U.S., ultimately becoming executive vice president and chief operating officer.

As Union Pacific chief operating officer from 2019-2020, Vena oversaw a team that achieved efficiency savings and delivered the best service product in the company?s history. He served as senior advisor to the chairman in 2021 and returned to Union Pacific as CEO in August 2023. His most recent experience as a board member is with Direct ChassisLink, Inc. (DCLI), serving on its Board of Directors as chair of the Audit Committee. He also recently served on the FedEx Board of Directors? Audit, Finance and Governance, Safety and Public Policy committees.

Vena grew up in the mountains of the Canadian Rockies in Jasper National Park. He and his wife, Karen, have sons Michael and Joseph. Vena received an undergraduate and graduate degree early in his career.

Justin Broyles began with R. J. Corman in 2001, holding various leadership positions focusing on emergency services, storm response, construction, and national account management. After serving for three years at Patriot Rail as Chief Commercial Officer, he rejoined R. J. Corman in 2018, becoming Executive Vice President, Commercial Affairs. In this role, he oversaw all commercial activity, including managing the marketing and sales teams, for R. J. Corman's 19 short line railroads. Justin was also responsible for Class I account management for all R. J. Corman companies and Storm Team efforts.

With nearly 25 years of railroad industry experience, Justin has developed a robust background in corporate account management, rail-related services, new business development, negotiations, mergers & acquisitions, supply chain logistics, and growing strong client relationships.

He holds a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Southern Illinois University. Justin holds several key positions in the transportation industry, serving as Chair of the Surface Transportation Board's (STB) Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council (RSTAC) Board of Directors, Vice Chair of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA), member of Short Line Caucuses of Norfolk Southern and BNSF, the Chair of the Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI), and a member of the Executive Committee Board of Directors of the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS).

Surface Transportation Board

Karen J. Hedlund was sworn in on January 3, 2022, as a Member of the Board for a term of office expiring on December 31, 2025, following her confirmation by the United States Senate on December 16, 2021. Karen was named Vice Chairman of the Board on January 9, 2023 and on January 9, 2024.

Karen served in the Obama Administration as Chief Counsel of the Federal Highway Administration from 2009 to 2010, and as Chief Counsel and Deputy Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration from 2010 to 2014. Since stepping down from that position, Karen has advised governmental authorities and private investors on the development of passenger rail and transportation-oriented development projects.

Prior to joining the FRA, Karen had a long career as a legal advisor to governmental agencies and private lenders and investors on the development of a broad range infrastructure projects across the United States, including rail, transit, highways, airports, water and energy facilities. She practiced with leading national law firms in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Karen is a graduate of Harvard University (AB) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD). Karen has two children and two grandchildren in Brooklyn, New York, who love to ski and hike with her near her home in Colorado.

Larry Gross is a forty-three-year veteran of the freight transportation sector. He is the President and Founder of Gross Transportation Consulting of Durango, CO, an independent consulting practice specializing in the North American intermodal sector (www.intermodalindepth.com). Larry is an acknowledged expert on intermodal who is quoted often in the press and makes frequent appearances before the transportation community, including the Intermodal Analyzed webinar series for the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA). He produces Intermodal in Depth, a monthly deep-dive analytical report on the intermodal sector and authors a monthly column for the Journal of Commerce.

He has played a key role in the creation of educational content for students studying Supply Chain Management as the author of numerous business case studies, many of which have been used over the years in the IANA Academic Challenge competition. Michael O. Miller was appointed CEO of Genesee & Wyoming?s North America on September 2023, prior to his current role, Michael served as President of G&W North America for five years, overseeing both commercial and operating functions, and he joined G&W as Chief Commercial Officer in September 2010.

Before G&W, he managed Norfolk Southern's Modalgistics supply chain organization, where he improved customers' supply chain efficiencies through rail, transload and intermodal service. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Strategic Development for Derivion Corp and held logistics-related positions with Georgia-Pacific and Roadway Express. Mr. Miller holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a master's in business management from North Carolina State University.

Surface Transportation Board

Michelle Schultz was sworn in on January 11, 2021, as a new member of the Surface Transportation Board.

Michelle was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 18, 2020. Michelle was named Vice Chairman of the Board on January 22, 2025, and previously served as Vice Chairman from February 2022 to January 2023.

For the previous 14 years, Michelle served in various leadership roles with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), which serves the public transportation needs of over one million daily riders in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. She is regarded as a leading lawyer and policy professional in the public transportation space. Most recently, Michelle served as SEPTA's Deputy General Counsel, where her responsibilities included: representing the agency before the Federal Railroad Administration and Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission; serving as lead counsel on a major railroad reconstruction project; overseeing compliance, regulatory, and legislative issues; and, serving as lead counsel on real estate transactions and contract negotiations.

During her time with SEPTA, Michelle also served as the Director of Legislative Affairs where she managed a team of public policy professionals who advocated for SEPTA on the local, state and federal level. She was also responsible for reviewing legislation and regulations at the local, state and federal level for impact to SEPTA as well as drafting provisions. Michelle served as SEPTA's representative to the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association and the Keystone Transportation Funding Coalition.

Early in her career, Michelle was an associate with White and Williams LLP where she represented businesses from diverse industries with a focus on financing matters including Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and collection matters. Prior her time in private practice, she served as a judicial law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and prior to that, as a judicial law clerk for the late Vincent A. Cirillo, President Judge Emeritus of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.

Schultz obtained a Master of Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania; a Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law; and a Bachelor of Arts from the Pennsylvania State University. She is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Michael R. (Mike) McClellan is Vice President Strategic Planning. McClellan joined Norfolk Southern in 1998 as NS's Assistant Vice President of Intermodal Planning, became Vice President of Intermodal Marketing in February 2000, and Vice President of Intermodal & Automotive Marketing in February 2005. McClellan began his career in 1985 in the Marketing and Sales department of Conrail. McClellan holds a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati. Surface Transportation Board

Patrick Fuchs was sworn in on January 17, 2019, as a Member of the Board for a term of office expiring on January 17, 2024, following his confirmation by the United States Senate on January 2, 2019. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Fuchs was senior professional staff member working on surface transportation and maritime issues for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation under the leadership of Chairman John Thune of South Dakota. Mr. Fuchs has played an integral role in the development and enactment of major railroad legislation, including the first reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Board since its creation in 1996 and the first passenger rail reauthorization in over seven years. He also worked on legislation to improve rail project delivery, rail financing, and hazardous materials safety, all of which were enacted as part of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), the five-year, $305 billion surface transportation authorization.

Mr. Fuchs helped develop and enact the first reauthorization of the National Transportation Safety Board in over a decade. He also worked on legislation to increase safety by addressing opioid abuse in transportation, reforms enacted as part of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. His work also includes the most recent authorization of the Federal Maritime Commission as well as three authorizations of the Maritime Administration, enacted as part of the National Defense Authorization Acts for Fiscal Years 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Prior to serving Chairman Thune, he was a policy analyst and Presidential Management Fellow at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where he managed railroad and maritime regulatory reviews. During his time at OMB, Mr. Fuchs worked on regulations pertaining to rail safety technology, rail tank car safety, and railroad operating practices, among other issues. He has also worked for the U.S. Department of State, where he received the Meritorious Honor Award for extraordinary contributions to substantive economic analysis. His experience also includes time with the U.S. Government Accountability Office and the National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education. Mr. Fuchs graduated with distinction in economics and political science and earned an M.P.A. from the University of Wisconsin, where he received the Director's Achievement Award for his outstanding academic record. Mr. Fuchs and his wife, Katherine, were born and raised in Wisconsin.

Nober retired from BNSF Railway Co. in December 2022, after serving 16 years as an Executive Vice President responsible for overseeing legal and regulatory matters, environmental claims, compliance, communications as well as state government and community affairs. He also served on the Board of BNSF Railway LLC. Prior to joining BNSF, Nober was a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

From 2002 to 2006, Nober was Chairman of the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, having been nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate. From 2001 to 2002, he served as Counselor to the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation. From 1993 to 2001, he served in a variety of roles for the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the U.S. House of Representatives, including serving as chief counsel from 1996 to 2001. He previously had been an associate at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom and a law clerk in the Southern District of New York. Nober has a bachelor's degree from Haverford College and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University School of Law.

He currently is a board member of the Eno Center for Transportation, an advisory board member at the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University, a member of the Business Advisory Council at Northwestern University Transportation Center, a former member of the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission, and a past and current board member of several nonprofit organizations.

Tracy Robinson was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of CN on February 28, 2022, and is responsible for CN's strategic direction and leadership. She is a member of the Campaign Committee and the Dean's Advisory Council at the Edward's School of Business of the University of Saskatchewan.

She has also represented TC Energy on the Board of the Canadian Gas Association. Ms. Robinson holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan. She received her Institute of Corporate Directors designation in 2015.
