James Carey serves as the Assistant Vice President-External Relations for Union Pacific. He operates out of the Washington, D.C. office and is responsible for advocating on behalf of Union Pacific with federal legislators and regulators regarding issues impacting the company, including its employees, shareholders, customers, and communities.

Carey graduated from Clark Atlanta University (2010) with a B.A. in Business Administration, concentrated in marketing and was an intern at Union Pacific while in college. Since joining Union Pacific full time, he has held several commercial sales roles with direct customer engagement in various markets with assignments for the company in Omaha, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Houston. He spent the last 6 years leading commodity-based sales teams; most recently serving as General Director of Petrochemicals.

Jacob Elium is Vice President Network Planning and Operations at Norfolk Southern Corporation. Appointed to this role in 2022, Jacob Elium leads the team that develops network operating plans that drive service, productivity, and growth. He is responsible for Fleet and Capacity Planning, Commercial Planning, Interline, and Business Processes and Systems.

Prior to his current role in Operations, Elium served as Group Vice President, Automotive Marketing & Sales and Assistant Vice President, Customer Service, both in the Marketing Division. He previously was the company's Assistant General Manager, Crew Management. In these roles, he had responsibility for customer logistics overseeing industrial products and train unit shipments as well as automotive commercial responsibilities for finished vehicles and automotive part shipments.

Elium has also held roles in Labor Relations, and Human Resources. He joined Norfolk Southern as a Management Trainee in 2012. He serves on the boards of Conrail, Belt Railway of Chicago, and Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad.

Elium earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

He has been Progressive Railroading's editor since 1998. Progressive Railroading also produces live events, including RailTrends, held annually in New York City.

With over 24 years of experience as a speaker, trainer, and Talent Development professional, Matt Meuleners is an expert in leadership development who specializes in: program design and delivery, L&D consulting, training audits, and leader coaching.

Matt holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin: Milwaukee and a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin: Madison. He taught Training & Development at Marquette University as an adjunct professor and is a Past President of the SEWI chapter of the Association of Talent Development.

An Executive Partner with FOCUS Training, Matt leads the professional development market team and serves as Lead Instructor for the Accelerate and Elevate Institutes where he trains and coaches managers and high-potential talent from the nations top companies.
